The Immigration Policy and Integration Branch undertakes comprehensive policy analysis to provide strategic advice to elected officials and senior executives on all matters relating to immigration policy and the settlement and integration of newcomers. The branch leads inter-governmental relations for the division, including the ministry's participation in multi-lateral forums for immigration to ensure provincial interests are included in national policy development and programming.

The Senior Economist position is an ideal career opportunity for someone with the skills, experience and drive to lead the development and implementation of a "Immigration Research and Service Innovation" function in the Immigration Policy and Integration Branch. The work will include leading complex projects on immigration policy and analysis and providing expert advice to government leaders on strategic decisions, major financial commitments, and important government priorities.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in economics or a specialized field of economics (e.g., demographic economics, immigration economics, human geography economics), or an equivalent master's degree.
  • Two (2) years experience conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and research projects.
  • Two (2) years experience developing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders at the senior-level leadership level (i.e., governments, academia, and industry).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • A PhD in economics or a specialized field of economics (e.g., demographic economics, immigration economics, human geography economics), or an equivalent PhD.
  • Five (5) years' experience conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and research projects.
  • Five (5) years' experience developing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders at the senior-level leadership level (i.e., governments, academia, and industry).
