Job Summary

Context: The Analytics Office Branch provides quality information and advice for decision makers through value-added analysis, research and performance management. In support of the policy, program and performance management needs of the Ministry, the Branch provides expertise and leads, or initiates work in econometric forecasting and modelling; quantitative research; economic analysis; data provision; policy development; performance measurement and continuous improvement including research and evaluation activities.

The Role: To lead the design and implementation of major and complex statistical and policy analysis projects and provide authoritative advice as a recognized economics expert, to government executive, on matters impacting strategic direction, major financial commitments, and significant government priorities. Reporting to the Director, Workforce Analytics, the Senior Economist will lead analytics on a specialty area of significant importance and impact for MCFD - Social Sector Workforce Dynamics.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Economics or a specialized field of economics (e.g., Economic Development, Financial Economics, International Economics), or an equivalent Master's Degree or PhD in a closely related field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics) and three years of related work experience in all of the following:
    • Conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and research projects.
    • Leveraging structured and unstructured data sources to conduct quantitative analysis using R or Python.
    • Linear and non-linear statistical modelling using R or Python.
    • Communicating (writing, presentations) with senior leaders and providing expert advice, interpretations and recommendations based on statistical analysis.
    • Satisfying client or stakeholder requests in a high-volume work analytical environment.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Work experience with relational databases and large administrative data sets using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Work experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing repeatable algorithms.
  • Experience supervising/mentoring analytical staff.
