We are is a firm specializing in design-build services to a growing clientele in the commercial, institutional and residential sectors. Our niche is creating, fabricating, and erecting practical design solutions for unique architectural concepts, usually in long span, exposed timber and timber/steel structures. New and challenging design concepts, materials and construction methods are what we thrive on - we enjoy pushing the boundaries in complex geometry, digital fabrication and in material testing and research, and our work in this regard has been featured in journals internationally. We work extensively across North America and have recently completed work in Asia.
The Drawing Office Manager will report to the Director of Operations and plays a key role in our organization, acting as the hub of design information from the architect and our own engineering group, and translating that information into layout and shop drawings used for fabrication on our shop floor and erection on site. We are looking for a proactive and versatile team member with strong leadership skills and a genuine interest in the many facets of our business. Candidates’ responsibilities will include oversight of three to five project draftsmen / 3D detailers, the ongoing planning and execution of departmental budgets and schedule, the establishment and implementation of drawing standards, document control, drawing checking, and interfacing with other departments and external clients. Candidates will additionally be capable of handling their own drafting, 3D modeling and rendering work, as time permits. We currently use Inventor and Tekla for modeling and detailing, Rhino and Grasshopper for conceptualizing complex geometry and 3DS Max for rendering.
As our work is technical, a university degree in a related field is preferred, though a combination of post-secondary education and industry experience may substitute. A minimum of 5 years detailing experience (steel detailing preferred, 3D parametric detailing experience is a necessity), and knowledge in all aspects of building structures is expected. You will be a skilled communicator in the English language, both written and verbal. A working knowledge of industry codes, specifications, and standards is required.
