About the BCAAFC

The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella organization for Friendship Centres across BC. Friendship Centres are not-for-profit, Indigenous-led, social service organizations that work to promote, develop, and deliver accessible programs and services that support Indigenous peoples living in urban areas and away from home. They provide a wide range of wraparound programs and services to communities - youth, child and family wellness, employment and training, education, health, economic development, language, culture and arts, preventing violence, sport and recreation, and community outreach.

BCAAFC promotes the betterment of Friendship Centres in BC, maintains communication between Friendship Centres, other provincial associations and the National Association of Friendship Centres, and supports the development of programs to improve the quality of life for Indigenous people living in BC.

About the Opportunity

The BCAAFC is looking for a full-time Director of Finance based in Victoria, B.C., on a hybrid work model.

As a senior member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial stewardship and sustainability of the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and General Manager, this role provides strategic financial leadership, ensures compliance, and supports the financial operations of a dynamic, growing non-profit with diverse funding sources.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advising senior leadership and the Board on financial planning, sustainability, and risk
  • Leading the development, monitoring, and forecasting of organizational and program budgets
  • Overseeing general ledger activities, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and monthly reconciliations
  • Preparing accurate financial statements, internal reports, and funder-specific reporting
  • Managing flow-through funding and ensuring compliance with grant terms and reporting requirements
  • Leading preparation for annual audits and serving as the key liaison with external auditors
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, CRA guidelines, and internal financial policies
  • Supervising and mentoring the finance team, fostering professional development and cohesion
  • Overseeing cash flow forecasting, treasury functions, and investment recommendations
  • Maintaining financial systems, digital record-keeping, and vendor payment processes
  • Managing organizational insurance policies and acting as liaison with financial institutions and agencies
  • Supporting continuous improvement and training across the organization’s financial processes
About You

To qualify, you will need a CPA designation and a minimum of 7 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role. Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit and fund accounting, as well as financial compliance, will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience with Sage accounting software, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to lead audits, manage granting programs, and oversee multiple funding streams
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for non-profits and CRA/GAAP compliance
  • Experience working in or with Indigenous and/or non-profit organizations
  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
