Director of Finance


    • Implement and supervise the financial strategy of the projects while working together with the project management team
    • Contribute to the improvement of organizational decision making by ensuring financial reporting supports organizational objectives and initiatives
    • Manage economic resources necessary to optimize cash flows and profits
    • Oversee and manage the Finance department
    • Preparation of monthly financial statements
    • Provide periodic G/L account and banking reconciliations
    • Compile, enter and post adjusting journal entries
    • Prepare all tax remittances (GST, PST, T4A-NRs, T5018s)
    • Compile and prepare month-end accruals
    • Maintain the fixed asset schedule & amortization calculations
    • Perform annual and other audits as required and as assigned
    • Oversee the streamlining accounting and relevant procedures
    • Create financial policies and procedures, as required
    • Apply new financial reporting standards
    • Manage relationships and negotiations with financial institutions
    • Analyze and report on the Profit/Loss for the projects
    • Additional responsibilities as required

Essential Functions

  • Monthly and quarterly financial statements (GAAP & IFRS)
  • Full cycle accounting, G/L, A/P, A/R
  • Monthly account reconciliations
  • Tax reporting and reconciliations
  • Project accounting
  • Maintain the fixed assets schedule and calculate monthly amortization
  • Calculate and submit Taxes while ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial and federal government entity reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Liaise with external auditors, legal counsel and tax advisors
Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – ability to build and maintain positive relationships with finance staff, operating management, and other departments
    • Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and see projects through to completion
    • Knowledge and proficiency with MS Office and ERP systems
    • Knowledge and comfort understanding and utilizing financial models
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
    • Employ problem-solving skills and analysis, and report results to the Finance Director
    • Strong understanding of IFRS and tax
    • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
    • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product line profitability analysis

Experience/ Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ relevant experience in a similar role
  • Post Secondary Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation required
  • 8+ years in project based accounting role
  • Project Management training an asset
  • Subcontracts experience an asset
  • Experience in a construction environment and industry knowledge is preferred
  • Hands-on, able to learn quickly and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
