Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Site Experience, the Director of Content and Growth Marketing is an integral member of the BuildDirect marketing team with a wealth of experience in understanding the importance of marketing strategies for inbound and outbound marketing, demand generation, partner marketing and events.

Your copywriting and editing skills are second-to-none, and you have a proven track record of developing new, inventive, and creative content and partner marketing strategies across all channels. We work in the lightning-paced world of a start-up, and things move fast, but you have an amazing fun team to support you on this exciting journey.

This position has four direct reports.

What You’ll Do

Inbound & Outbound Marketing
  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of weekly blog and learning center posts, e-newsletters, e-books, social media posts and video content and development
  • Collaborate with our agency and external writers to help develop our content strategy
  • Review and edit copy from third party content creators, ensure it is optimized for SEO and link-building
  • Ensure we are developing high converting copy for various marketing initiatives across our audiences, develop and implement strategies for conversion
  • Establish integrated campaigns that drive traffic to content assets by leveraging search, social media, landing pages, product pages, advertising and more
  • Set quarterly KPIs, measure and report on the success of content assets and KPIs weekly, communicate on strategy/project development, timelines, and results

Demand Generation
  • Work with external agency to establish email and mobile (SMS) marketing strategies
  • Collaborate with the marketing automation team to establish campaign journeys, list builds and sends
  • Ensure that the SEO team and Content team are closely aligned
  • Ensure regular technical site audits, content audits and backlinking are prioritized and being done – ensure analysis, share results and findings, make recommendations, pivot and ensure implementations

Partner Marketing
  • Working closely with the Partnership Leader (to be hired) and the Business Development and Sales teams to build integrated marketing and lead generation programs to support existing and new partnership and marketplace opportunities
  • Review and establish marketing strategies to support our presence on 3 rd party Marketplaces, ensure BuildDirect is positioned properly, ensure we are leveraging all marketing opportunities to increase brand exposure (e.g. Corporate descriptions, photography linking, development of ideabooks, pinboards, etc.)
  • Work with the Merchandizing team to publish a list of ‘BuildDirect Choice’ SKU’s aiming to promote the SKU’s to all partners
  • Ensure the partner online directory is established and up to date, including partner landing pages and look into developing a monthly marketing services model


What You Need to Know
  • 10+ years of experience, with 5-7 years of relevant senior level experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA nice to have
  • Customer obsession combined with strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills, strong editorial and creative skills, with the ability to craft messaging and product value propositions
  • Experience working closely with sales and partner teams
  • Experience working with marketing automation tools, like Pardot, Salesforce, Google Analytics
  • Track record of delivering results, setting strategy, and managing high performing teams
  • Highly polished communication skills - speaking, writing, presenting and influencing teams to action
  • Strong track record of recruiting, hiring and developing talent
  • High threshold for delivering results in an ambiguous, fast paced environment – figuring it out and adapting as you go
  • Ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes
  • A willingness to roll up sleeves to get it done, have a strong sense of urgency and commitment
