Director, Engineering & Transportation Services
West Vancouver is one of three municipalities that make up the North Shore, and is a member municipality of Metro Vancouver, the governing body of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The Engineering Division is responsible for provision of services and safe and efficient transportation network in West Vancouver. The Division is responsible for: the construction, operation and maintenance of roads and sidewalks; the collection and disposal of residential waste; a safe and continuous supply of drinking water; and sewage, storm drainage and flood protection.
The Division undertakes infrastructure management planning and an extensive capital program each year, provides technical expertise for municipal infrastructure projects and provides GIS and mapping services for staff and the public.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Engineering & Transportation provides vision, leadership and management of the fleet, public works, engineering, water, storm and sewer utilities and solid waste functions. As a member of the senior management team, the Director supports and collaborates in an environment where leadership, innovation, teamwork and sound planning are valued. The Director works across internal and external stakeholders to best support and develop District programs, systems and infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a professional engineer (and member of APEGBC) with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in local government. Additional experience in the private sector, is an asset. The role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills with well-developed knowledge of municipal infrastructure planning/maintenance and the delivery of services. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A valid BC driver's license and a vehicle is required.
