The Lytton First Nation is currently recruiting a Diabetes Prevention Worker for the Health Department.  Our main office is located at 1535 St. Georges Road, Lytton B.C.  This position is classified as full-time and will include weekend and evening work, and will be supervised by the Health Manager.   The Diabetes Prevention Worker develops, implements, manages, and conducts the primary prevention activities, and coordinates and ensures appropriate care for those individuals diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and related complications. Community Diabetes Prevention Workers (DPWs) deliver effective health promotion and diabetes prevention programming.



  • plan, implement, coordinate, and conduct a program for community members focused on the prevention of diabetes and other chronic diseases
  • Develop the diabetes program and educators in activities such as, but not limited to:
    • Preparing and conducting regular food demonstrations, and other equivalent programs designed to support community residents in making nutritious food choices
    • Ensure that appropriate educational and traditional resources are available to the community
    • Create and maintain booths at community events
    • Ensure opportunities for; and encouragement of physical activity through initiatives
    • Offer workshops on weekends, and evenings
  • Liaise with staff from other relevant programs or organizations
  • Create, and keep current yearly program activity plans outlining long and short range program goals, and how implementation will be achieved
  • Prepare monthly, written activity reports and submit them to the immediate supervisor
  • Attend staff training as required


  • Is a good role model and lives a healthy lifestyle
  • Community Diabetes Prevention Worker Level 1-Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Strong oral and written English literacy
  • Computer literacy and research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other community programs
  • Ability and desire to work as a team player
  • Ability to pass a criminal reference check.
  • Physically capable of performing duties required.
