What to expect as a DevOps Engineer in the Elastic Path Commerce CloudOps team?

The DevOps Engineer in the Elastic Path Commerce CloudOps team will join a seasoned team that develops, enhances and supports a set of DevOps tools and frameworks we make available to our Elastic Path Commerce customers. Your focus will be on developing, enhancing, and supporting tools that empower our customers to build, test, deploy and operate their Elastic Path Commerce Java applications and services, primarily in the AWS cloud.

Location: We are looking for candidates to be based anywhere in Canada. This is a fully remote position. Elastic Path is operating in a remote-first model.

What impact will you have?
  • Helps create, document and support great DevOps tools that our customers use to build, test, deploy and operate their self-managed Elastic Path Commerce applications
  • Collaborates with Customer Support and Professional Services teams to support customers who use the provided DevOps tools
  • Writes infrastructure and continuous integration (CI) code that uses and configures technologies like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Maven, Containers, Kubernetes, Terraform, Bash and Jenkins to accomplish the above
  • Creates and maintains internal continuous integration pipelines to automatically test various versions of the DevOps code that we publish
  • Partners with the Elastic Path Commerce application development team on coordinating CI technologies and tools
  • Champions good software development and documentation practices
  • Participates in discussions with the team to improve internal processes and make working at Elastic Path continuously better
  • Understands and applies Elastic Path security policies, processes, and controls as required, in day-to-day tasks

What experience do you need to Be Remarkable in this position?
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with DevOps practices & software development and release processes
  • Helps create, document and support great DevOps tools that our customers use to build, test, deploy and operate their self-managed Elastic Path Commerce applications
  • Collaborates with Customer Support and Professional Services teams to support customers who use the provided DevOps tools
  • A love of automation; you automate and script everything, and ensure all resources can always be recreated from code
  • Experience designing and implementing infrastructure-as-code solutions using technologies such as Terraform
  • Experience building containers and using container orchestration tools (Ex. Kubernetes, ECS, Docker Swarm, etc.)
  • Experience with Java build technologies such as Maven & CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitLab
  • Comfort and familiarity with networking, relational database, Linux and web-application concepts and technologies
  • Experience interacting with external customers and providing regular delivery updates

Bonus Point For:
  • Comfort using kubectl, Kubernetes, Amazon's Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), and eksctl
  • You can explain the relationship between a Kubernetes ingress, an ingress controller and a load balancer
  • Familiarity with encryption keys, TLS certificates and TLS termination. Even more points for experience with cert-manager and Let's Encrypt.
  • Experience writing customer-facing documentation and the ability to explain complex technology in easy-to-understand terms
  • Experience troubleshooting Java application issues such as heap usage and OutOfMemory errors
  • Experience integrating various monitoring, alerting and log aggregation tools
  • You have the knowledge and experience that we ask of our customers in our CloudOps for Kubernetes Requirements documentation .
