Job Summary:

Reporting to the program supervisor, the detox worker is a member of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of duties involving client care and program, in the 20 bed residential detox. This position involves shift work.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Screens and assesses clients for admission/non admission, entering information in the booking program as required.

  • Does admissions and discharges, performing all related tasks.

  • Performs 24-hour assessments.

  • Takes and records vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse and respiration.

  • Documents client information, including discharge summaries, accurately and in a timely fashion.

  • Reports to supervisor any facility repairs needed or safety concerns observed.

  • Delivers education groups for clients.

  • Conducts house meetings for clients.

  • Conducts relaxation sessions for clients.

  • Participates in the exercise program.

  • Provides recovery planning opportunities for clients supporting their right to self-determination and arranging necessary referrals through consultation with the supervisor/assistant supervisor.

  • Assists in dealing with crisis situations requiring medical management/behavioural management including fire safety procedures.

  • Makes beds and does agency laundry.

  • Assists with general cleaning of kitchen and client common areas.

  • Attends staff meetings as able.

  • Performs related duties as required.


    Qualifications:  Education, Training and Experience:

  • Grade 12

  • Relevant 2-year diploma in health, social or human services from a recognized educational institute.

  • 2 years’ experience working as a health care worker, orderly, human services worker.

  • Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.

  • General knowledge of substance abuse

  • CPR certification
