Our data science team is part of the IoT & Predictive Maintenance organization. We focus on big data analytics and predictive use cases, in close collaboration with customers.

Our teams (located in Walldorf and Palo Alto) are multi-disciplinary, with experts in web application and HANA development, data science, big data frameworks and platforms as well as design thinking. We run co-innovation projects with customers, partners and our entire ecosystem, where thinking outside the boundaries of SAP’s traditional product landscape is key to success. Based on the learnings from our co-innovation projects, we build standard products that deliver immense business value to our customers.

  • Lead and contribute to co-innovation projects with Internet of Things customers from various domains
  • Work closely with customers to understand their business needs, collect requirements and translate customers’ business problems into quantitative models, and choose the best applicable statistical and analytical tools to drive a solution
  • Take responsibility of preparing customer project plans, kick off meetings, status reports, change request and other project collateral, and monitor follow up projects
  • Contribute in developing and implementing data science solutions for standard products in the areas of Internet of Things and Predictive Maintenance
  • Design and develop predictive analytics pipeline and implement statistical models in standard/customized software products with SAP technologies such as SAP HANA Platform, SAP Predictive Analytics, SAP HANA Predictive Analysis Library (PAL), SAP Text Analysis and Text Mining, SAP Lumira, SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP HANA Vora, SAP Data Services, and other open source tools such as R, Python and Hadoop/Spark
  • Apply machine learning and data mining algorithms to extract patterns from structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, and make predictions to address business needs in the domain of Predictive Maintenance
  • Provide reliable, scalable and maintainable data science solutions in customer projects and support customer development team and core development team in data science solution implementation and optimization
  • Research and evaluate latest advances in data science technologies to determine the effectiveness of the solution and its feasibility of integration into existing predictive analytics solution package
  • Identify actionable insights, suggest recommendations, and influence the direction of the business by effectively delivering and communicating results to customers from diverse backgrounds
  • Provide support to development team on design, coding, testing and quality assurance of complex product features
  • Design and customize standard software product for client use with specific use cases, optimized quality, reliability and efficiency
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams in the execution of customer projects
  • Support customer development team by transferring customer project specific knowledge and explanation of data science solutions

  • Expertise and experience in the field of statistics, data mining and machine learning
  • Domain knowledge or experience in predictive maintenance is preferred
  • 2 + years of experience in using statistical, data mining and machine learning techniques to solve business problems in an engineering or product role
  • Expertise and experience in relational databases; experience with the SAP HANA Platform is required
  • Experience with SAP technologies such as SAP Predictive Analytics, SAP HANA Predictive Analysis Library (PAL), SAP Text Analysis and Text Mining, SAP Lumira, SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP HANA Vora, SAP Data Services, SAP Predictive Maintenance and Services (on premise edition), SAP Predictive Maintenance and Services (cloud edition)
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Hadoop or Spark

  • Masters or PhD in a quantitative discipline: Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operational Research or other related fields
  • Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning or data mining concepts, and a track record of solving problems with these methods
  • Experience with one or more machine learning or statistical modeling tools such as R, Matlab and scikit learn. Demonstrable fluency with code and programming concepts
  • Solid programming skills in one of the following languages: Python, Java, C/C++, or Scala
  • Strong communication skills and client facing skills
  • Learn new mathematical or technical methods quickly and with little guidance and apply them to the relevant development topics
  • Creativity, teamwork, analytical thinking, and result orientation
  • Openness to work in a culturally diverse group

  • Salary is CAD $87,000-$107,000/year plus discretionary bonus
