POSTION: CORPORATE CONTROLLER

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Corporate Controller is a strong team player, under the direction of the Operations Director and Group CFO. The Corporate Controller will manage accounting and payroll functions, perform general and cost accounting functions, report financial results, coordinate outside audits to comply with generally accepted accounting principles and accepted company accounting practices and procedures; consult with Division personnel on business issues and coordinate budgets to assure accurate financial records and information for evaluation and maintenance of the financial stability of the organization. Partner with the Operations Director to proactively develop financial information to assist the Operations Director in achieving profit objectives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform and manage financial metrics analysis, financial accounting, financial procedures and reporting, manage accounting, payroll functions, accounts receivable, collection functions and accounts payable activities, to insure accurate financial records and information.
  • Prepare for and perform month end closings, review systems generated journal entries for accuracy, prepare non-systems journal entries, reconcile accounts and perform general ledger maintenance. Prepare and publish all financial and operational packages which monitor, control and report financial activities and status.
  • Develop and prepare budget process to provide the framework for establishing sales estimates, monitor, control costs, make adjustments and revisions as necessary to achieve desired financial results.
  • Develop, design maintain budget/forecast models that enable the Operations Director to access, understand, and develop scenarios for individual departments and function budgets.
  • Develop, audit and analyze physical inventory, calculate book to actual, reconcile general ledger, monitor valuation and shrinkage, determine excess and obsolete inventory to assess adequacy of reserves, retention of cost effective and elimination of obsolete inventory.
  • Analyze labor costs, standard costs, material costs, material usage requirements and product costs to determine reasonable, effective cost containment. Develop overhead rates, determine overhead pools and cost drivers and monitor spending levels and reallocation of costs to assure full cost absorption.
  • Update and maintain chart of accounts and fixed asset records. Insure compliance with bank and related governmental regulations.
  • Perform cost accounting activities for divisions and assist the Operations Director in solving business issues such as, return on investment, efficiency, overhead and cost benefit analysis.
  • Coordinate, cooperate, communicate, support and interact with Company personnel to foster teamwork and insure open communication and mutual understanding.
  • Insure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, accepted company accounting policies and procedures and related governmental regulations. Supervise all accounting, payroll, credit, and IT staff. Mentor and teach personnel using effective management and supervisory techniques to foster teamwork and develop a satisfied, cohesive, committed, productive workforce.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Partner with the Operations Director and other key Division personnel to proactively develop financial information and analysis that assist the President and others effectively and manage the Division to achieve profit objectives. Some examples: pricing analysis, gross margin analysis, operational efficiencies, and profitability studies.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all operations are carried out at the minimum cost consistent with quality standards.
  • Maintain a high degree of employee motivation and morale, departmental and inter-departmental cooperation.
  • Maintain neatness and orderliness in the department. Comply observance of safety regulations and initiate action to establish new regulations whenever the need arises.
  • Maintain and comply with policies, procedures and practices relating to operations of the plant.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent, plus a minimum of 8 years related experience in manufacturing or related environment including progressively responsible and supervisory experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • CPA certification would be an asset.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, tax returns and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the bank, outside auditors, regulatory agencies, managers and employees of the company and general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts for tax returns and payroll withholdings, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variable situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office products is essential, and Visual ERP software experience would be advantageous.
