Salary Range

$48,150.15 - $66,096.20 annually, plus a Temporary Market Adjustment of $50.37 - $231.76 bi-weekly. ($45,647.93 annually for new recruits during the 33 day training program). In addition, a benefits package worth up to approximately $16,000 annually.

Create change in your community as a Correctional Officer. In this role, you will rotate through various posts and departments. With leadership from department supervisors, you will be responsible for maintaining security, safety, good order, discipline and care of thosein our custody by providing orientation, direction, guidance and programming. The focus is on engaging these individuals in a pro-social environmentthat provides maximum opportunity for change in a setting that is productive and supportive and where they are treated in a respectful, fair and equitable manner.

NOTE:The Correctional Officer position has a peace officer designation, so is held to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, by the employer, the public and the courts.

SELECTION CRITERIA

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet theselection criteriaoutlined below:
  • 19 years of age or older
  • Valid BC Driver's licence (minimum class 5), or equivalent from another province
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (you must be legally permitted to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position either through citizenship or permanent residency)
  • Valid Occupational 1st Aid (OFA 1) or a Worksafe BC approved equivalent
  • Grade 12 or equivalent*
  • Grade 12 English with a final grade of 70% or equivalent*

Any fees associated with obtaining documentation in support of the above criteria are the sole responsibility of the applicant.

Note:Current BC Correctional Officers are exempt from providing documentation already submitted, or undergoing assessments completed, when hired into the position.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Applicants that meet the minimum requirementsANDsubmit the required documentation for Grade 12 graduation and Grade 12 English will be invited to complete further assessments in the hiring process as noted below.
  • Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT)
  • REACT Test (NOTE: there is a $41.00 US fee associated with this test which is the responsibility of the applicant. Your result is valid for 12-months.)
  • Security Screening Questionnaire
  • Behavioural Event Interview
  • Reference/Past Work Performance Checks
  • Enhanced Security Screening
  • Medical Assessments

IMPORTANT: Qualified applicants who submit complete applications byJanuary 2ndwill be invited to participate in the first round of assessments in the hiring process. Those who submit complete applications betweenJanuary 3rd and February 20thwill be invited to participate in the second round of assessments in the hiring process.
