Experienced Controller with Construction Development Experience 

Expert Recruiters is currently seeking an experienced Controller to join a reputable real estate development company who is an industry leader in residential, commercial, and retail projects in greater Vancouver area. The ideal candidate will assist the senior management team in over-seeing various financial projects while demonstrating a thorough knowledge of industry finances and strong supervisory and leadership skills.

 Who you are!
You have a minimum of 5 years’ and preferably over 7 years’ experience in the real estate industry supervising the day to day activities of various accounting department and following procedure, conducting analysis and implementing solutions to the financial reporting then then this is the role for you.

The Role
Responsibilities will include managing the accuracy of tracking records of the financial activities by reviewing project’s cost to date, progress billings, hold backs, loans, sales, warranties, HST/GST, job costing, etc. Develop, maintain and update comprehensive organizational budgets and cash flow forecasts to assist and advise on short and long-term strategic planning. In addition to engaging in supporting and mentoring Accounting staff on various aspects of daily business activities, reporting deadlines and inter-department work flow or communications.

The new office in located in the False Creek area 

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day to day activities of various accounting department and following procedure, conducting analysis and implementing solutions to the financial reporting
  • Manage the accuracy of tracking records of the financial activities by reviewing project’s cost to date, progress billings, hold backs, loans, sales, warranties, HST/GST, job costing, etc.
  • Coordinate and manage fiscal year end reporting including consolidation, internal controls, audit, for various entities and other complex financial projects
  • Engage in supporting and mentoring Accounting staff on various aspects of daily business activities, reporting deadlines and inter-department work flow or communications
  • Develop, maintain and update comprehensive organizational budgets and cash flow forecasts to assist and advise on short and long-term strategic planning.
  • Interact with the senior management on business development and strategic business planning processes
  • Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals
  • Assists with determining the appropriate methodology in creating marketing and presentation materials, which includes designing brochures, preparing tenant surveys or other specialized reports, developing property locator maps, etc.
  • Basic financial reporting and analysis
Must Haves
  • Post-secondary education preferably in Business or Finance
  • Designated CGA/CMA/CA
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Real Estate Development
  • Ability to motivate, train, and sustain high performance of accounting team
  • Ability to complete operational requirements by scheduling, assisting and following up on accounting staff’s work results
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills, both verbal and written
  • Adaptability to changing needs with an openness to taking on additional responsibilities as needed
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain a detail oriented approach in a fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to self-identify, think through problems with both macro and micro –perspective
  • Knowledge of Canadian Corporate tax compliance and GAAP
  • Proficient MS Office skills ( advanced Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), ACCPAC, Quicken, ADP  Accounting Software
