The company â€"

Our client operates in numerous countries globally including Canada, Germany, Australia and the United States. Your potential new employer is one of the world’s largest producers of pulp and leading the way in solid wood products. So if you have a background/experience in the forestry industry then this is advantageous but not essential.

The position â€"

You could be reporting directly to the site General Manager and will be the top finance person on site! With this comes the ability to help shape the processes and systems and create the best department you can.

Like most controller roles you're responsible for a broad range of duties including overseeing all accounting activities, preparing accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses to the Vancouver office on a monthly and quarterly basis. Additionally, you would be supporting the General Manager on the overall operations of the site and play a key part in its success as well as supporting other team members within the company where needed.

As an experienced Controller/Finance Manager it goes without saying that you are knowledgeable in the usual areas of responsibility such as Preparing and/or reviewing all month end reconciliations, Daily bank and cash flow reporting, Manage payroll, including all remittances & year-end reporting and oversee the management of the benefits program.

Other duties include Ensuring all government reporting deadlines are met including remittances for income tax, payroll, GST, PST, WorkSafe BC, etc. Project costing and departmental costing requests for the Vancouver office, Assisting with the operational and capital budgets and the ability to support special projects when required are also under your remit.

Skills and Experience â€"

This position will put your 5+ years of experience at a Controller/Finance Manager level and financial designation to good use. Other specific knowledge for this position include a solid understanding of financial statements (US GAAP is preferred), payroll management experience, hands on use of Sage Quantum or Sage 50 is beneficial but not essential but solid experience with other financial software packages such as Quickbooks, SAP or Oracle is required.

What will really set you apart as the perfect candidate for this role will be if you have experience of with National Safety Code program requirements, knowledge of Inventory systems or Sage Fixed Asset Knowledge.
