A very prestigious private school based in Vancouver has a wonderful opening for a stellar Controller to plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions. As a part of the Business Office – a support department to the school and parent community - the Controller is expected to provide seamless service at all times and will continually review operations for opportunities to increase efficiencies across a multitude of areas.

They are looking for a mastery of purpose and vision, someone with energy and drive who emulates the school’s core values of humility, integrity, respect and responsibility.

The successful incumbent will start this role in the new year and after 3 months of employment they will have the option of a hybrid working model.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct analysis for financial reporting, prepare monthly financial statements
  • Cash management and bank account administration
  • Prepare billings, account reconciliations and complex journal entries
  • Maintain multiple subledgers
  • Complete monthly and quarterly tax returns, assist with charity returns
  • Oversee external audits
  • Manage and review payroll for salary and hourly staff
  • Supervise 3 Business Office personnel and an Accountant
  • Other accounting duties

What You Bring

  • Minimum 4 years of accounting experience at a senior level, including experience with accounting for a non-profit
  • Accounting designation needed (either CA, CGA, CMA or CPA)
  • Proficiency with Excel and Sage300 and Blackbaud accounting software
  • Excellent analytical, financial and accounting skills
  • Professional and effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative approach to work and the ability to thrive with minimal supervision in an ever-changing environment
