Work Arrangements
The Criminology and Legal Studies Department at Douglas College is seeking contract instructors for Criminology or Legal Studies courses beginning in the Summer 2023 semester. The successful candidate may be required to teach days and evenings at both of the Douglas College Campuses in New Westminster and Coquitlam .

The Role
The Criminology and Legal Studies Department at Douglas College invites applicants for placement on a contract and on-call list of instructors starting for the Summer 2023 semester. Applicants may be contacted as needed for teaching courses for a semester, for completing courses in cases of faculty leaves during a semester, or for short-term substitution during the semester.

Responsibilities

    •Applicants should have demonstrated experience in, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching. •The successful candidate will instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in College courses. •The successful candidate will plan, organize, and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners, and provide learner-centered instruction.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
Applications of those who seek appointment to teach Criminology courses (apart from law courses) will be evaluated using the following criteria:

    •an MA in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with thesis) from a Canadian university, or an MA in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with thesis) and demonstrated experience or research/publication in the Canadian criminal justice system is required •PhD in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with dissertation) from a Canadian university, or a PhD in Criminology or a relevant related discipline (with dissertation) and demonstrated experience or research/publication in the Canadian criminal justice system is preferred; •extensive work related experience in the Criminal Justice field is preferred; •applicants will also demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate courses across the Criminology curriculum (apart from law courses).



OR

Applications of those who seek appointment to teach law courses in Criminology or Legal Studies will be evaluated using the following criteria:

    •an LLB /JD degree from a Canadian, American or other Commonwealth university common law program is required; •current or past membership in a Canadian Law Society is required; •legal practice experience is required; •an LLM (with thesis) or Doctorate (with dissertation) in Law from a Canadian, American or other Commonwealth university common law program is preferred; •applicants will also demonstrate excellence in teaching law courses in the Criminology and/or Legal Studies curriculum.
