Work Arrangements
The position is outcomes-focused, but generally, working hours are represented during a Monday to Friday work week. Occasional weekend work may be required. Travel may be required on occasion.

The Role
The faculty member in this position is responsible for working with CE Health Sciences Manager, CE Program Facilitators, CE Coordinators and internal/external content/subject matter experts to support the development and evaluation of courses and programs in CE Health Sciences. Additionally, in consultation with the CE Manager, Coordinators, and facilitators this faculty member acquires, secures, organizes, maintains, and develops experiential placements (practicum, preceptorship, and related experiential placements) for CE program students. The faculty member in this position has:

    •the responsibility to seek collegial decisions •the authority to act on emergency issues requiring a decision, pending collegial resolution of the issue •the responsibility to implement collegial decisions


Operational Coordination

1. Works with CE Manager to assist in the development of the long-range plans for program/course development, ensuring they are consistent with College policies, Professional bodies, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and entry-level competencies.

2. Participates in CE Department strategic planning process.

3. Works with content experts in the development and implementation of new courses and programs for CE Health Sciences programs and the regular review and revision of established programs

4. Collaborates with the CE Manager, Dean, Associate Dean and other relevant stakeholders in program recognition processes.

5. Supports CE Manager, CE Coordinators, Program Facilitators and internal/external content/subject matter experts with their goals for Curriculum Development.

6. Provides advice to CE Manager, CE Coordinators, Program Facilitators, and content experts on curriculum-related matters

7. In collaboration with CE Manager, CE Coordinators, Program Facilitators, and content experts and other relevant stakeholders identifies new CE course offerings, program initiatives, and related curriculum initiatives including assessment of cost recovery feasibility


In collaboration with CE Health Sciences Manager, Program Facilitators and other relevant stakeholders' advise, assist, manages and leads as appropriate CE programs (new, in development, and established):

1. Facilitates and coordinates Curriculum Development ensuring that outcomes are congruent with approved curriculum and program structure.

2. Advises on course resources.

3. Advises on currency and review of curriculum guidelines and course syllabi, managing or assisting with updates as appropriate

4. Provides support with Curriculum Navigator and other curriculum-related processes to program facilitators and other relevant stakeholders as appropriate

5. Monitors and reports on the quality of the curriculum implementation of all HS CE programs in relation to consistency with accreditation/approval standards for the discipline or best practices.

6. Analyzes evaluation data from internal and external stakeholders and coordinates the implementation of revisions to the curriculum.

External Liaison

1. Meets with external content experts proposing or promoting new programs or courses to assess feasibility and development requirements. Works with CE Manager to determine go/no go on program initiatives.

2. In conjunction with CE Manager and as appropriate liaises with professional accrediting/approval bodies regarding curriculum and program evaluation.

3. Works in collaboration with CE Manager, CE Program Facilitators and content experts (new programs) to assess requirements, develop and implement Program Advisory Committees. Follows up on advisory recommendations as relevant appropriate.

4. Assists CE programs in maintaining currency of public-facing information (print, digital)

Clinical Placements

1. In conjunction with the CE Manager, Program Facilitators, Program Coordinators assesses the requirements for type and number of clinical placements.

2. Working with the relevant body (Health Authorities, out of province authorities) clearly communicates the requirements for placements based on student practice need for the purposes of acquiring placements.

3. Ensures a coordinated and timely process to request and secure students placements.

4. Ensures student requirements ( CPR , mask fit testing, immunizations etc.) are known to students and completed by deadline dates for placement

5. Works with CE Manager, Program Facilitator, and Program Coordinators to ensure the sites selected met the required outcomes and recommends changes to programs/CE Managers as required.

6. Liaises with placement and CE instructors in a proactive manner to ensure the relational management and continuity of practice placements
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
1. Current RPN /RN registration with BCCNM or equivalent Health Sciences professional background.

2. Master's Degree required, Doctorate/PhD preferred in nursing, related health care or education field.

3. A minimum of five years of recent post-secondary (or equivalent) teaching experience in nursing or healthcare-related fields with a demonstrated understanding of a variety of current educational methodologies.

4. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development at the course and program level including experience in presenting curriculum-related materials through educational governance processes.

5. Demonstrated ability to translate content/subject material to curriculum design and development.

6. Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize software programs related to evaluation, learning management, and databases. Familiarity with Qualtrics (program evaluation), Blackboard (Learning Management), and HSPnet (Clinical Practice database) an asset.

7. Demonstrated experience and understanding of experiential placements in health care-related fields

8. Experience in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement processes; approvals and/or accreditation experience preferred.

9. Demonstrated organizational skills

10. Demonstrated project management skills

11. Demonstrated positive and effective interpersonal and networking skills, including teamwork and conflict resolution skills

12. Demonstrated self-direction, resilience, motivation, initiative and creativity

13. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural safety and humility in the context of education and health care practice/delivery

14. Ability to articulate the values, goals, and philosophy of Douglas College, Health Sciences and the CE Department and articulate best practice methods to implement these elements.
