Local building solutions provider is looking for a qualified candidate to fill a newly created position as Commercial/Residential Steel Building Design- Leader located at an advanced manufacturing facility in Surrey.

Maximizing efficiency and productivity using state of the art design and manufacturing technology, this young company is firmly on the leading edge of the construction industry.

Deploying world class, advanced end-to-end cold-formed steel (CFS) building design and construction technology, this operation designs, assembles and installs light gauge steel wall panels, floor joists and roof structures for installation in a variety of residential and commercial projects throughout the lower mainland.


  • Reporting to the President & CEO, you will lead, manage, supervise and cross-train drawing office talent preparing each for future roles.
  • This is a key position in the organization. It requires a quick-minded, bright and energetic individual, capable of working semi-autonomously, with a commitment to integrity, honesty and forthrightness in all dealings and with a genuine passion for detailing.
  • Hands on working detailer from concept to completion for Construction; Review and apply latest industry innovations in drawings.
  • Collaboratively work with members of the project team (client, owner, EOR and consultants, president, estimators, detailers, project managers, shop/site supervisors) during pre-construction, planning, manufacturing and production and construction phase.
  • Develop model and shop drawings complete with connection engineer following structural and architectural drawings with understanding of engineering and construction principles; ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Implement design impacts for changes issued through SI’s and CCN’s.
  • Generate take offs, cut sheets and CNC files for shop fabrication.
  • Promote continuous improvement to companywide policies, standards and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • A post-secondary Degree in Structural Engineering or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and related industry experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in construction - with a proven track record in residential and commercial projects - is required. 
  • Must have light gauge steel work experience within the construction industry.
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively in a team setting with all levels of employees and clients to achieve results.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and capable of working semi-autonomously with a commitment to integrity, honesty and a passion for your work.
  • Detail oriented, accurate, organized and disciplined in your approach and delivery.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in AutoCAD and MS Project, advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PDF mark-ups.
  • Your ability to free hand sketch will be considered an asset.
