The Commercial Credit RiskContractor plays a key role in the risk management framework of CCS. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Credit Risk Review, the incumbent is responsible for independently validating the reliability, effectiveness, and integrity of Coast Capital's internal control systems relating to credit risks and providing management with an objective evaluation of adequacy and effectiveness of their control processes, and input to the design, development, and implementation of those control systems. The incumbent will also follow up with management on action(s) taken in response to review findings and recommendations and report on the overall status of prior review recommendations. This person as well, works closely with all Three Lines of Defense within Coast Capital to ensure design and operational effectiveness of key credit risk controls. What you'll get to do: Work with internal stakeholders to identify key risk areas and provide recommendations on policy, guidelines and processes. Active involvement in the community to foster the image and reputation of Coast Capital Savings Demonstrates commitment by actively contributing support and participation in new corporate initiatives and encourages team members to do the same. Makes recommendations to Senior Manager with respect to appropriateness and effectiveness of existing policies and procedures, changes to operating procedures and the need for lending training. Keep current with changes to policies, procedures and processes, trends in commercial banking, credit, technology and regulatory issues that may have an adverse impact on CCS. Is current on commercial lending industry trends and latest frauds in the market in order to mitigate risk. Proactively promote a strong credit risk management culture across Coast Capital. Build collaborative relationships with others in the division and the organization, cultivating strong internal partnerships to accelerate successful strategy implementation. Foster team collaboration to provide a superior support structure for project work. Develop strong relationships and work cooperatively with business partners. Perform specialized commercial lending reviews with respect to the achievement of corporate objectives, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and to internally mandated policies and procedures. Plan, organize and perform risk-based reviews and project assurance reviews that are designed to add value and help improve CCS operations. Work collaboratively with all three lines of defense to build positive relationships and effective approaches to managing regulatory risks. Perform duties as assigned. Picks up on trends and highlights where CCS is exposing itself unduly or where CCS could further enhance opportunities. Fosters a compliance culture by ensuring appropriate credit risk management processes are embedded within business systems. Who are we looking for? A minimum of 10 years' experience in Commercial Lending and/or Commercial Credit. Must have broad experience in lending to operating companies and real estate entities (construction and term mortgages) and must be current in terms of market underwriting practices. Solid knowledge in relation to Personal Property Security Act, Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, Bank Act, relevant aspects of the Criminal Code, Real Estate Law, Financial Institutions Act. Minimum Formal Education Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study. University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Commerce, or equivalent. Professional designation in banking (FICB), Credit (FCI) or a recognized accounting or real estate designation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Solid understanding of Coast Capital's Enterprise and Operational Risk Management methodologies, frameworks and policies. Thorough understanding of credit analysis and internal credit policies for Commercial. Advanced knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles. Proficient knowledge of local and provincial economies and trends in a variety of industries. Advanced knowledge of commercial credit analysis, policies, negotiation, security and legal procedures including an advanced knowledge of regulatory and statutory provisions related to real estate lending. Advanced understanding of real estate appraisal methods, environmental reports, geotechnical reports and construction lending processes and documentation. Strong report writing skills. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Word as well as Excel. Demonstrated ability to positively and productively engage and manage relationships with colleagues at all levels. Effective questioning and listening skills. Results-oriented team player. Courage to set up and say what needs to be said when know when to say it to confront problems and deal with conflict in a direct and timely manner. Ability to provide direct, positive, actionable feedback to others regardless of level. Excellent presentation and organizational skills to produce quality work with exceptional attention to detail. Motivated self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple assignments and meet aggressive deadlines. Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize with strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills required, both written and oral, for effective and professional internal and external communication. Ability to make independent decisions, with an ability to develop and assess options. Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills and an ability to work with people at all levels. Advanced knowledge of Coast Capital's Corporate Lending Policy and Guidelines. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory environment affecting Coast Capital's lending activities.
