Overview
The Corporate Financial Services department of WorkSafeBC is looking for one highly motivated Co-op student, Corporate Financial Services to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.
The student will assist the department to assist in supporting our goal of maintaining cost-effectiveness and financial accountability for WorkSafeBC. This is a four-month temporary opportunity starting in January 2025.
How you'll make a difference: You'll apply what you've learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.
Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and be on-site at a minimum of once per week in our Richmond office.
What you'll do
On day one, you can expect to undergo orientation and complete all paperwork for HR(P&C), payroll etc., as well as meet with your manager to gain an overview of your daily responsibilities and to respond to any inquiries you may have.
The first week will be dedicated to training and shadowing with a colleague from your team who will be your mentor, as well as periodically touching bases with your manager. Together you will focus on primary tasks such as payment review for stops and cheque reissues, gradually expanding the scope of responsibilities as the work term progresses.

- Help with stop payment and reissue requests for payments sent to injured workers, employers, providers, and corporate vendors
- Collaborate on adhoc projects, like gathering data from third-party vendors to help make sure we meet our financial controls and reporting requirements
- Write and refresh process documents as needed as well as taking on additional tasks as they come up

- Demonstrate self-motivation and an ability to work with limited supervision

Your background and experience
- You are a third or fourth year student enrolled in Accounting, Business Administration or in a related program
- You have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel required
- Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred

- Confirm you're legally entitled to work in Canada for the entire duration of the work term
- Confirm you will reside in British Columbia for the entire duration of the work term
- Confirm you're a registered student at a post-secondary institution
