Job Summary Contribute to the administration of justice in a diverse legal environment by bringing your thoroughness, good judgement and initiative to this specialized roleThe Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that theadministration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured tocarry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch supports the Ministry infulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. Legal Services Branch provides legaladvice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. Legal Services
Branch's clients include all Ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.
Legal Services Branch Legal Assistants perform specialized, skilled work, with a high degree of independence and underlimited supervision, for assigned legal counsel. Your ability to deal with issues of a sensitive and confidential nature withtact, diplomacy and good judgment will prepare you to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.
Working independently or as part of a team, you exhibit exceptional organizational, verbal and written communicationskills, and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships. Exceptional attention to detail, a high levelof initiative, self-motivation and flexibility are required, as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize are essential.
Duties include providing legal assistant and administrative assistance to solicitors in the preparation of correspondence,contracts and other transactions; coordinating schedules for meetings; coordinating travel arrangements; maintainingbring forward system(s) to ensure that deadlines are not missed; organization of communications, large volumes of filingand significant file management of large, complex files. The successful applicant may be required to assist with FOIPPAinquiry work, including the preparation of inquiry submissions to the Information and Privacy Commissioner. Facilitatinga pro-active approach to the work is essential. Working knowledge of BC Online, MyLTSA e-Filing and conveyancingprocedures would be an asset. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and together as a team andbe able to work overtime, when necessary and approved in advance.
Job Requirements:• Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
• Completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant program from a recognized institution, or equivalent education and experience in a legal environment.
• One (1) year of experience working in a legal office.
• Experience with Microsoft Suite and SharePoint sites.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
• A Certificate from a recognized Legal Office Administrative Assistant Program;
• Recent experience (within the last two (2) years) relating to a solicitor's practice; and
• Experience using BC Online (including Court Services Online, BC Registry Services) and MyLTSA.
