Job Summary

Contribute to the administration of justice in a legal environment

The Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Attorney General as the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and ensures that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. LSB's mission is to provide excellent, innovative, timely, practical and cost effective legal and legislative services to the government in accordance with the rule of law. A shared service, LSB provides a wide range of legal services on a cost recovery basis to government ministries, the Attorney General, Cabinet, Crown corporations and public agencies.

LSB is located within the Ministry of Attorney General, and has approximately 550 staff members, including legal and legislative counsel and professional support staff. LSB's organization structure consists of five legal groups that work collaboratively to support government. Areas of legal advice provided by LSB include but are not limited to: constitutional law; Aboriginal law; resource, environment and land law; revenue and taxation law; health and social services law; finance, commercial and transportation law; justice and education law; and labour, employment and human rights law. LSB also provides civil, constitutional and Aboriginal litigation services

The Junior Legal Assistantprovide a variety of office administrative and secretarial support services and to coordinate the day to day priorities of the legal group, its clients and other stakeholders.

Job Requirements:
  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a legal office environment or two years of experience working in a non-legal office environment.
  • Completed coursework related to legal practices and procedures.
  • Experience working in a government setting.
  • More years of experience working in a legal office environment or in a non-legal office environment.
