Established civil and industrial contractor based in South Burnaby is looking for an experienced CSO

Established national civil and industrial contractor based in South Burnaby area has been in the Canadian market for over 40 years working on projects from under $1mil through to $50mil+

Your new role
As a CSO, you will be responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) guidelines. Your main goal will be to always ensure a safe working environment and prevent any injuries and accidents. As a CSO you must ensure that construction workers are following established policies and safety regulations. You will be expected to take on additional roles and responsibilities, but your primary job will be helping to create and maintain safer construction sites.

  • Plan and implement OHS policies and programs
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis
  • Review existing policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all the rules and regulations
  • Work with management to set-up and train new employees regarding process for safety
  • Conduct risk assessments
  • Conduct comprehensive workplace hazard assessments/analysis and develop project specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP's)
  • Enforce preventative measures
  • Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions

What you'll need to succeed

  • Excellent knowledge of legislations and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous industrial construction materials or practices
  • Experience in producing reports
  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient MS Office user
  • Working knowledge of safety management information system
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • CSO certification in occupational health and safety - Must have
  • COR Auditor certification - *bonus
