Located on the central coast of British Columbia, some 500 kilometers north of Vancouver, Kitasoo/Xaixais First Nation is a progressive band and community. Home to approximately 400 people, the community resides in Klemtu on east side of Swindle Island and in the heart of the picturesque Great Bear Rainforest. Surrounded by ancient forests, deep oceans and coastal fjords, the region is world renowned for its wildlife and pristine beauty.
Home to the Spirit Bear Lodge, the village also boasts grocery stores, a post office, school and child care centre, health clinic, big house, community sports facility, greenhouse and more. Despite its remote location, the village is accessible by ferry, plane or water taxi.
About the Opportunity
Kitasoo/Xai'xais First Nation has a great, full-time opportunity for a Child Care Centre Supervisor in Klemtu, British Columbia.
If you're an experienced Early Childhood Educator looking to take on a key supervisory role and the opportunity to make a real difference to a community, this is a great opportunity for you!
Reporting to the Health Director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Kitasoo/Xai'xais Child Care Centre with 25 preschool and infant toddlers. You will also administer the allocated budget, provide support and guidance to all Centre personnel and lead the implementation of the Aboriginal Head Start Program.
This is a hands-on, diverse and challenging role that also offers lots of reward, recognition and support from the Health Department and local community.
This is a great opportunity for a BC certified Early Childhood Educator with Infant/Toddler specialization, in accordance with Community Care Facility Act licensing requirements. Similarly, you will have working knowledge of child care and head start funding and reporting requirements. In addition, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate:

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role encompassing 35 hours a week. Some flexibility may be required to work overtime, when needed. Relocation assistance, including the provision of a three bedroom house, is negotiable.
