About the Opportunity

Currently, BC Tree Fruits Cooperative is searching for a Chief Executive Officer in Kelowna, BC. In this role you will report directly to the Board of Directors who is made up entirely of grower members. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial, sales & marketing, operational, HR, legal, and horticulture objectives of BC Tree Fruits. 

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Facilitating the Board of Directors to develop strategic plans, and preparing short and long term operational plans for all departments, and annual reports
  • Ensuring that both entities provide their customers with agreed-to products and services and working closely with staff to upgrade technology and equipment as required
  • Guiding, directing, and managing direct reports, including oversight of training, standards of performance, and evaluation of senior managers and department staff in conjunction with senior managers
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, pertinent legislation, and contractual commitments 
  • Monitoring financial performance against budgets and targets, and directing the annual financial strategy 
  • Responding directly to stakeholders, particularly individual growers, media, and government, which will include the preparation of key communications/messaging that meet the goals of the organization
  • Ensuring proper saftey and accountability controls are in place through the organization
  • Building visibility and awareness within the community, fostering brand development and new business opportunities and funding
  • Ensuring that BC Tree Fruits has a qualified and cost-effective Field Service to assist growers to achieve better financial returns

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive knowledge of the production, storage and packaging cycle for perishable goods, and have experience in creating operational efficiencies. Additionally, you must have experience in a regulated industry and in an unionized environment with significant senior/executive management experience,managing all facets of a business as a whole.

Additionally, you will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and experience garnered from an operational, facility, production, output, or productivity environment
  • Experience with pooling regulations, collective agreement bargaining, WorkSafe BC regulations, and food safety requirements
  • Executive level experience with strategic planning, financial management, stakeholder management, project management, and standards setting to acheive excellence in customer service
  • The ability to manage relationships and expectations in a grassroots, member-based organization
  • An analytical, innovative, consultative, and entrepreneurial leadership style

As a dynamic leader you will effectively manage relationships with various stakeholders and demands while maintaining a superior level of operational excellence. You will be required to converse with an extremely diverse group of people including facility managers, Union Representatives, growers, the Board of Directors, and government officials. 

Demonstrated experience in employee engagement and the ability to lead change within an organization will be the key to your success in this role. Similarly, the ability to build, motivate, and develop a high performance teamis essential.
