Job Description

We are currently seeking Bookstore Sales Associates to join our Facilities - Ancillary Services Team as part of our on-call auxiliary pool.

Job Overview

Reporting to Retail Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing services and sales to students, faculty, staff and other customers, maintain inventory controls, process financial transactions and merchandising functions as required.

Education and Experience
  • Receiving and/or forklift experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated expertise with a computerized point of sale terminal in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counting floats, balancing and banking of daily cash received.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of math calculations and general accounting practices in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of books and stationery retail business including knowledge of packing slips, invoices, and receiving.
  • Demonstrated ability to use standard office equipment including calculators, computers, trans-select, and computerized inventory control system.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office software, including a computerized student records system and a computerized textbook reservation system.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and written.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle unusual or unexpected situations including effectively dealing with irate customers.
  • Proven ability to provide superior customer service in a fast paced environment involving multiple demands.
  • Proven ability to display initiative, take responsibility and exercise good judgement.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to stand for long period of time and to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of inventory control equipment such as carts, dollies, pallet jacks and wrapping/packaging tools.

As Campus Store has 4 locations, preference will be given to those with ability to work at all campuses.

As per the KPU-BCGEU Collective Agreement, qualified internal applicants within the BCGEU bargaining unit are given first consideration in filling this position. Salary Information

Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
