The Skeena Region Fish & Wildlife team is looking for an enthusiastic Wildlife Biologist, who has strong technical skills and is excited to work with a diverse array of wildlife species in collaboration with Indigenous Nations and stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity to support wildlife management and enhance your hands-on experience managing wildlife populations. The Wildlife Team conducts a variety of activities to support wildlife management in the Skeena Region including wildlife population monitoring and inventory, collaborative work with First Nations, stakeholder engagement, harvest management, and authorizations. Bring your passion for wildlife management, field experience, attention to detail, and organization to help manage wildlife in the Skeena Region.

The regional wildlife biologist position applies biological theory, methodology and technical knowledge of wildlife management and habitat conservation to analyze, assess and manage diverse wildlife values in the Skeena Region. The position contributes to acquisition of new knowledge and methodologies on population assessment, population modelling, evaluation of population viability and evaluation of causes of population change. The regional wildlife biologist makes recommendations to decision makers regarding population management, regulation of licensed harvest and species recovery. The position supports the sustainable use of wildlife resources while engaging and partnering with local Indigenous communities.

Job Requirements:

Please include your registration number with the College of Applied Biology ( CAB ) within your application, as you must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with CAB . If you are not yet registered with the CAB, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the CAB).

About this Position:
Currently, there is one (1) temporary opportunity in Smithers, B.C, ending on March 31, 2025.
The temporary assignment may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
There will be occasional travel required; therefore, willingness to travel should be an important consideration in your application.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary/ permanent vacancies in Smithers.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
