About the BCLDB:

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch Wholesale Operations division is the hub of beverage alcohol distribution in British Columbia. There are three business units; Wholesale Supply Chain, Pricing & Imports and Distribution, working in partnership with suppliers to maintain a resilient and responsive supply chain whilst focusing on exceeding our customers' expectations, and giving back to the communities, we serve. Our stakeholders comprise approximately 1200 agents/suppliers, over 800 retail outlets and 9000 licensed establishments. About this role:

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Wholesale Operations; the Senior Director Distribution is responsible for all aspects of operations, P&L and team leadership of the BC Liquor Distribution Branch's liquor distribution operations, which include two high volume distribution centres in Delta and Kamloops. With shipping product sales in excess of $2.0 billion and 24/5 operations, this position is responsible for developing, maintaining and executing the strategic plan and policies and achieving business objectives whilst maintaining a consistent high standard of safety, accuracy and efficiency in the seamless flow of liquor products through the distribution centre buildings across logistics, product delivery and warehouse management.

The Senior Director Distribution is responsible for developing budgets, forecasting volume and labour planning and effectively driving the growth of the business. This role provides strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with both internal and external key stakeholders to ensure that the DCs deliver a high level of customer service as measured by the service level KPIs.

The successful candidate must have the ability to travel occasionally, sometimes overnight.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years recent, related work experience in a senior leadership role*.

OR
  • A diploma in a related field and a minimum of 4 years recent, related work experience in a senior leadership role*.

OR
  • A certificate in a related field and a minimum of 6 years recent, related work experience in a senior leadership role*.

*Recent, related work experience must have occurred in the last 10 years and include the following:
  • Leading significant operational changes (impact to sales, multiple stakeholders, IT dependencies, etc.) to achieve business operations and improve profitability.
  • Providing strategic oversight and leadership, including experience with budgeting, financial reporting, capacity planning, workflow management, and business analysis.

Preference may be given to candidates with any of the following:
  • A minimum of 6 months experience leading, directing and managing distribution operations for a large (>$100 million sales), complex (>1000SKU, >300 suppliers and customers) fast moving consumer goods distributed wholesale/retail operation in a multi-shift environment.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience leading and developing a diverse workgroup of employees (>300) within the last 3 years.
  • Experience with multi-site teams.
  • Experience leading in a unionized environment.

About BC Liquor Distribution Branch

In British Columbia, there are two branches of government that have responsibility for the liquor industry: the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCLB) and the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB). Both of these branches currently report to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. The LCLB issues licences for making and selling liquor and supervises the service of liquor in licensed establishments.
