Job Summary

The Team
Operations Team is a group of highly motivated technicians and asset managers, who together, oversee highway safety and infrastructure improvements. This team works closely with the District Manager of Transportation, the administrative team and the District Engineer. This is a cohesive team that collaborates with our maintenance contractors to delivers services on public highways.

The Role
The District Operations Manager leads the Operations Team and works closely and collaboratively with the maintenance contractor. This leadership role has a level of independence and autonomy that provides the potential to set your own tone and lead the team with your own unique style.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
  • Secondary School Graduation or GED and minimum of 7 years public or private sector related work experience* OR;
  • Graduation from a Technical Institute in a related field of study** and a minimum of 5 years public or private sector related work experience* OR;
  • Graduation from a University in a related field of study** and minimum 3 years public or private sector related work experience* OR;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


*Related work experience must include a combination of :
  • Experience in management positions, construction supervisor, field superintendent, or related employment involving management.
  • Experience supervising and inspecting the construction, repair or maintenance of roads, bridges, and similar structures.
  • Experience negotiating and coordinating the work of construction trades.


**Related fields of study should include but are not limited to:
Civil Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction, Transportation Systems and Planning, Traffic, Forestry, Resource Management, Urban or Regional Planning, or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Direct transportation related experience including contract management, project delivery, road and bridge construction and emergency response.


Proviso/Willingness statement
  • Candidates must be willing and able to travel and to work extended hours. Extensive travel in all weather conditions is required.

About this Position:
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
