Job Summary

Supreme Court Scheduling works under the delegated authority of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and performs a function that is critical to the Court, the judiciary, and to the public. A high level of judgment and professionalism is required because they serve as the main interface between the judiciary and the public. The main function is to coordinate the scheduling of trials, hearings, and conferences on behalf of the judiciary. As such, the scheduling staff are part of the administration of justice and occupy a unique position in working closely with members of the judiciary and protecting judicial independence. The role requires a deep understanding of the role of the judiciary as an independent branch of government. Scheduling staff work closely with other government departments which provide support services to the Supreme Court, including Court Services Branch and the sheriffs.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree, diploma or certification related to law, justice studies or court administration.
  • Recent experience (in the last 1-3 years) managing staff in a legal setting, such as court services, Judiciary, law office or justice sector.
  • Recent experience (in the last 1-3 years) in a dynamic and deadline-focused work environment.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships within a complex organizational system.
  • Experience with change management and project management.
  • Experience with standard office technology and the ability to learn and manage proprietary software.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience in Supreme Court Scheduling.
  • Experience with scheduling in complex systems.
  • Experience with the court system in British Columbia and applicable legislation.
