The Slocan Site Redevelopment Project is a team within BC Children's Hospital and PHSA that is responsible for the design, construction, and operationalizing of a new centre for children and youth living with health complexity. This visionary project will support children living with health complexity, who require a range of health-care services and other supports so that families and care providers can look after them in their own communities. This new program of BC Children's Hospital will coordinate some of those services and supports through a first-of-its-kind care model and facility in Canada, and one of the first internationally.

Duties and responsibilities

The Associate Medical Director reports to the Medical Director, Slocan Site Redevelopment Project. The role focuses on your subject matter expertise and overall advisory responsibility for clinical program development and the implementation of clinical services. The role's tasks will evolve as the program develops, and there is potential to move into a leadership role. Overall accountabilities include:

• Support the Senior Medical Director and the clinical project team in creating, developing, implementing and evaluating the clinical services program.
• Support and provide subject matter expertise into the facility design process including schematic design, development of functional requirements and design development.
• Collaborate with clinical and operations teams of physicians, senior administrators and other health-care professionals to identify program and service requirements; review, provide subject matter expertise, and integrate service delivery models, clinical standards and operational guidelines for clinical services.
• Provide subject matter expertise to the clinical project team, working groups and committees as required.
• Develop networks and build alliances to influence clinical quality, equipment planning, operations and information technology across functional areas.
• Support a smooth training, orientation, and transition for patients, families, clinicians and staff.
• Liaise and work in collaboration with the working groups and consultants as required.
• Work, liaise, and engage with physicians from BC Children's Hospital and across BC in collaboration with the Senior Medical Director and the clinical project team.
• Interact regularly with the Senior Medical Director and the clinical project team to ensure physician input into planning. Specific consideration should be given for the Complex Care program, general pediatrics in the community, sub-specialists in critical care, neonatology, developmental/rehabilitation pediatrics, psychiatry, hospital medicine and others as needed.
• Partner with the programs and other departments in the development, maintenance and promotion of the operational and clinical teams' project goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• An MD and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Fellowship in Pediatrics, or equivalent.
• Experience in caring for children with health complexity at either the general pediatrics or sub-specialty level.
• Experience providing community-based pediatric care an asset.

Skills

• Subject matter knowledge of the social determinants of health and their impact on children, youth living with health complexity and their families/caregivers.
• Knowledge of the children's health-care landscape of BC including PHSA, BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre, Child Health BC, the regional health authorities and specific BC Children's Hospital programs such as Sunny Hill Health Centre, Nursing Support Services, Complex Care program, etc.
• Working knowledge of how to read and interpret strategic planning documents, budgets, proposals, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of stakeholders supported by an acute awareness of the impact of action.
• Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with strong ability to negotiate, partner, persuade, and work collaboratively at all levels of an organization.
• Experience in health-care system engagement and/or leadership an asset.
