Horizon Recruitment Inc. has been engaged to conduct the search for a newly created Assistant Controller role at one of our innovative growing clients. Our client is at the forefront of integrated marine construction services, offering end-to-end solutions for large-scale industrial projects. From designing and managing workforce lodging on water to providing specialized marine transportation and infrastructure services, we meet the unique needs of our clients in various sectors. The Assistant Controller will be a key contributor to financial integrity, supporting accurate and timely reporting for multiple entities within our organization. This position is ideal for a finance professional looking to make an impact through close collaboration with senior leaders, while managing and guiding accounting operations across diverse locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead and support the finance team in recording financial transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Partner with the Director of Financial Operations to compile and review financial data, supporting key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reporting as required by financial institutions and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the data gathering and preparation of financial statements for annual reporting.
  • Work closely with external auditors to facilitate audit procedures and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Maintain strong communication with the finance team and other departments to align financial reporting with daily operations.
  • Provide guidance on accounting practices, financial controls, and process improvements to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior accounting role.
  • CPA designation or active pursuit of the CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; QuickBooks experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and complete complex tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative team environment through positive behavior, knowledge sharing, and strong interpersonal skills.
