About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Assay Technician to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule. 

Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe day-to-day analysis of data required by the Mine and Mill operations. You will assist in procedure development, sample collection, and onsite lab work.  

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring adherence to safe laboratory policies and procedures
  • Collecting & preparing samples for analysis
  • Analyzing and validating data 
  • Calibrating and maintaining instruments
  • Reporting accurate sample analysis results in a timely manner
  • Analyzing daily samples while following all operations and QC SOPs
  • Ensuring that all employees work safely and in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures
  • Reporting hazards & incidents in a timely manner, in line with Mount Milligan’s reporting procedures
  • Housekeeping of the work area
About You

To qualify, you will need at least 1-3 years of experience in a similar position, with proven scientific knowledge and competent mineral processing background (preferably gold or copper).

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in wet assaying and/or fire assaying
  • Post-secondary education in Sciences (Chemistry, Geology, or Assaying) or similar will be highly regarded
  • Assay and mine operations safety practices
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office software and LIMS (or similar)
  • Ability to troubleshoot, prioritize tasks, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
  • Previous experience in instrumentation including but not limited to AAS, ICP, C&S analyzer, and Hg analyzer
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs of weight as part of the daily routine
