BC Timber Sales (BCTS) was founded in 2003 with a mandate to provide the cost and price benchmarks for timber harvested from public land in British Columbia. BCTS plans, develops, and auctions as much as 20% of the province’s annual available volume.  

The primary purpose of the Engineering Branch is to provide a safe forest road network which balances industrial, commercial and public use in a cost-effective manner reflecting the level of use and available funding while minimizing impacts to the environment. Engineering Branch is responsible for the development, monitoring of, and supports implementation of, the ministry forest engineering program to ensure compliance with all relevant Acts, Regulations, government policy, engineering standards, agreements and operational plans.

As one of the Area Engineers, you will lead the BCTS bridge inspection, maintenance, replacement and construction program for a defined geographic area of responsibility. This position ensures that bridges, roads and other structures are cost effective and are designed, built and maintained in compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, government policy, engineering standards and agreements, including safety regulations. Your broad-ranging expertise is a valuable asset as you participate in, or lead local and provincial project teams, resolving technical design and other project issues. A collaborative approach is crucial to this role as you successfully establish and maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety of contacts.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in Civil / Forest Engineering or equivalent as recognized by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of BC (APEGBC)
  • Must be registered or immediately* eligible for registration as a fully licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC) 
  • Current, related professional engineering experience in road and bridge planning, design, construction and deactivation.
  • Related engineering experience in project management of infrastructure planning, design, and / or construction projects
  • Experience monitoring engineering practices and the work of contracted resources
  • Experience acting as coordinating registered professional and / or professional of record on a variety of resource sector projects
  • Experience working with limited supervision and a distant reporting relationship
