Local 276 represents journeypersons and apprentices working in the Sheet Metal, Architectural Sheet Metal, Flat Roofing, and Slope Roofing Trades. 

Sheet Metal and Flat Roofing are both Red Seal Trades which are recognized Canadian Certifications, and Architectural Sheet Metal and Sloped Roofing are B.C. only Certifications. As these trades have their own unique set of skill sets, they each require a combination of practical on-the-job training and specialized technical training to complete prior to a final examination and certification is granted.

Due to increased construction demand, Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 276 is currently looking for Apprentice Sheet Metal Workers to join our team in various locations around Vancouver Island.

As an Apprentice, you will be cementing a career path as a Red Seal/Journeyperson Sheet Metal Worker, getting hands-on training while receiving a competitive wage for your dedication!

Your day-to-day duties as an apprentice could include:

• Learning to lay out, measure, and mark sheet metal according to drawings or templates
• Operating hand and power tools and equipment
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and work specifications 
• Grinding and buffing seams, joints, and rough surfaces 
• Working safely and using special personal protective equipment 
• Sorting materials and maintaining a clean worksite

We are looking for applicants interested in pursuing a career in construction as an Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker. As our ideal candidate, you are interested in starting a career as a Red Seal/Journeyperson Sheet Metal Worker. You have the motivation to learn, and are reliable and hardworking. For this role, you must possess a valid drivers' license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Individuals currently enrolled as a 1st year Apprentice Metal Sheet Worker or higher would be ideal candidates, but we will accept applications from candidates switching trades, those with experience in material handling, or anyone with any construction or trades experience looking to progress your career!

You will be successful in this role if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to multitask and prioritize competing tasks, and have a safety-first mindset at all times. Lastly, you love being outdoors, and are able and willing to work in all weather conditions at ground level and at heights. 

Furthermore, you will succeed as a sheet metal worker if you:

• Communicate, work well with others, and follow directions well 
• Have good dexterity and like to work with your hands
• Are physically fit with stamina for manual labour
• Have experience using hand and power tools
• Are willing to follow safety guidelines at all times
• Have hands-on experience working on air and heat ducts, roof decking or sheet metal buildings (asset)
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics (asset)
