Anesthesiologist BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre Regular Full Time Opportunity Vancouver, British Columbia BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre (BCWH) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women's health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women's is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre, BCW's mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.
The Department of Anesthesia is seeking an Academic Anesthesiologist to fulfil strategic roles within the department. It is expected that the successful candidate will be actively involved in research at BC Women's Hospital, the University of British Columbia, and within our active combined Clinical/Research Fellowship Program. In this role, clinical anesthesia responsibilities will include elective and emergency anesthesia services, the acute pain service, and clinical education activities with all levels of trainees and health profession colleagues. As an integral member of the Department of Anesthesia, your participation and leadership, specifically in the realm of clinical research, will contribute to the quality improvement and service delivery of obstetric anesthesia at BC Women's Hospital and beyond. Academic protected time is assigned according to an objective assessment of requirements.
The applicants will have a) completed a Medical Degree, b) formal training (a Master/Doctoral degree) in research, and c) experience in mentoring trainees in conducting clinical trials with a track record in publication success. Ideally, the applicant should also have completed fellowship training in obstetric anesthesiology, but equivalent clinical experience in obstetric anesthesiology based on years of practice will be considered. Other desirable characteristics include: experience in independent anesthesia practice; a proven engagement with quality assurance and service development activity; undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/medical education experience.
