What's the job?

BCAA's People & Development team is hiring for an Advisor, Disability Management. To contribute to the achievement of the People & Development (P&D) Department and BCAA's strategic objective of creating a culture of safety and wellness, where transparency, working as one, and people first are essential.

This role leads and coordinates all disability functions while working proactively to improve BCAA's employee wellness, both focusing on prevention and support. This role is also responsible for ensuring that employees understand the leave process and that all employee questions are addressed as quickly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities Include

What you will be doing?

Service Excellence and Consultation
    •Provides advice and manages disability management processes for employees including topics such as policy and procedures, entitlement, enrolment, acceptance/denial of disability claims, reinstatements, individual/group transfers, disability management practices and other related matters. •Often the first point of contact for team members with any disability benefit issues or questions, including escalations.•In collaboration with Health and Safety and Wellness, provides services to employees that require injury, medical, and/or rehabilitation support resulting in their safe and early return to productive employment. Assesses and facilitates return to work plans for all employees as per the timelines, including the use of functional abilities assessments.•Consults with others within the P&D Department on complex, non-routine disability management related matters.•Liaises with team members and managers to provide support/guidance with disability benefit inquiries or issues.•Consults with insurance carriers to resolve disability benefit issues and determine best course of action.•Monitors and resolves customer service issues with insurance carriers. Escalates to Manager where appropriate.•When required, visits locations for further support and promotion.•Assures total customer satisfaction by handling all inquiries and resolving challenges as they arise with team members and carriers.

Legislation, Policy Interpretation & Administration
    •Provides day-to-day administration Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) plans. Interprets and applies the interpretation of the collective agreement as it pertains to all STD/LTD Benefits administration. •Ensures BCAA complies with the provisions of the STD/LTD benefit contract.•Ensures team members are advised if their STD/LTD benefit coverage is being impacted in accordance with our contract provisions with the benefit carrier when denied STD/LTD coverage.•Ensures the payroll system is updated when premiums have changed to ensure the team members are taxed and/or deducted correctly while on STD/LTD.•Representative on committees related to Disability Management, Health & Safety and others as appropriate.•Researches and analyzes HR trends and issues and makes recommendations. •Provides input in the development of department goals, work plans and budget. Participates in HR initiatives, activities and projects. Takes a lead role on designated disability management projects and initiatives that focus on proactive prevention.•Maintains accurate team member data in the leaves administration system and the HRIS.•Tracks and maintains all leave data for reporting purposes. •Prepares reports and trends tracking to create process improvements.

Program Awareness
    •Updates the Manager of any issues and provides solutions towards betterment of wellness services. •Educates employees on the leave process by enhancing BCAA's intranet information•Develops and presents learning sessions as needed


Minimum Qualifications
What you bring to the role:

Education:
    •Diploma in HR/Business Administration/Disability Management or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:
    •Five years of HR experience - including experience in disability management

Technical:
    •Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word & Excel)
    •Previous experience in HRIS (Workday)

Other skills:
    •Strong knowledge of legislation as it pertains to Disability Management
    •Excellent organizational and problem solving/investigative skills and the ability to source information quickly
    •Demonstrates ability to be innovative and to take initiative
    •Tact, diplomacy and ability to maintain confidentiality
    •Ability to meet deadlines and establish work priorities
    •Proven ability to effectively present to groups
    •Excellent project management skills
    •Superior communication skills; strong listening skills, ability to communicate ideas clearly, strong written skills (clear and concise) and the ability to tailor communication to the audiences needs
    •Ability to work well in a team where cross collaboration and communication is essential
