Job Summary

Provide project administration services for complex projects in this career-building role.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner's mandate is to minimize the loss of life, injury, and damage to property from fire by administering and enforcing British Columbia's fire safety legislation. The OFC leads provincial fire prevention and fire reporting programs, promotes fire safety awareness, and establishes minimum training standards for fire services personnel. The OFC provides structure fire expertise and coordinates fire services during emergencies.

The Provincial Fire Service Training Specialist leads public education and fire prevention initiatives (e.g., public campaigns), implementation and continual improvement of the provincial fire service training framework, including programs, policies, standards, performance management and reporting. The role also manages the OFC's social media presence.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline (e.g. Adult Education, Business Administration or Fire Administration); or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • A combination of least three (3) years' experience inthe following:
    • Experience in public education related to the fire service.
    • Experience in training development and delivery of training for adult learning. This includes: developing and implementing training materials, presentations, and lesson plans.
    • Experience in facilitation with a wide range of partners.
    • Experience providing training expertise to senior decision-makers.
  • Experience in stakeholder and partner management working closely with partner ministries.


Preference may be given to candidates who fulfill the above requirements and also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience programming and operating learning management systems, including website and social media platforms.
  • Experience inbest practices and innovative approaches for education in emergency services leading to community safety.
  • Certified Educator/Teacher (Certification of qualification from the Teachers Certification Branch)


Willingness Statements:
  • Candidates must be willing to participate in frequent overnight travel.
  • Candidates must be willing to participate in operational emergency deployments throughout the province.
  • Candidates must be willing to work extended hours, as required, to meet operational requirements.
  • Class 5 BC Driver's Licence is required.
