Job Summary

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans and improves transportation networks, builds new infrastructure, provides transportation services, and implements transportation policies, to allow for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

The District administers highway maintenance agreements, portions of the rehabilitation program, development approvals and support for the provincial capital program and are the direct link between the ministry and the public/partners.

The Area Manager, Roads acts as the local ministry representative with partners on highway operations related issues and customer service delivery and oversees, audits and monitors road maintenance programs.

This position assumes a leadership role in developing and maintaining key relations within the BC government, with other government officials and external agencies. As an effective communicator with analytical and problem-solving skills, we encourage you to apply to this challenging and rewarding opportunity.

Job Requirements:
  • University or college degree in a related field of study** and one-year related experience*; OR,
  • Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC) in a related field of study** and three years related experience*; OR,
  • Grade 12 (or GED) and a minimum of five years related experience*.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers license in good standing.

*Related experience include the following:
  • Experience in highway construction and/or maintenance, project management, contract management, traffic management surveying or audit processes, procedures and practices.

**Related field of study means study includes the following:
  • Civil engineering, structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography, or project management.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Area Manager Roads Certificate of Completion from BCIT.

Provisos /Willingness statements:
  • Able and willing to climb up and down steep slopes and between structures.
  • Able and willing to respond to emergencies that may occur at any time during the day or night.
  • Able and willing to work in hazardous conditions/locations.
  • Able and willing to obtain Area Manager Roads Certificate of Completion within 18 months of appointment.
  • Able and willing to speak publicly.
  • Able and willing to travel frequently.
  • Able and willing to work in an office environment.
  • Able and willing to work outside during periods of inclement weather and/or rough terrain.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position is located in Coquitlam.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the Lower Mainland District.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
