The Ministry of Health is responsible for maintaining an accessible, high quality, affordable system for health service delivery that meets the needs of the citizens of the Province of BC. Its mandate is to support and enhance a responsive, comprehensive, regionalized health care system that promotes and provides for the physical, mental and community health of all British Columbians.

The Finance and Corporate Services Division supports the Ministry Executive and programs by managing and ensuring a consistent approach to financial and corporate issues. The services are provided through five branches: Financial Operations, Financial Analysis and Decision Support, Regional Grants and Decision Support, Audit and Investigations, and Logistics Strategy. These branches provide financial advice and assist programs to meet their strategic goals and operational plans, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and central agency directives.

Facilities Management and Support Services (FMSS) works under the Financial Operations Branch reporting to the CFO. FMSS provides efficient and effective infrastructure for direct ministry operations - Space Management, Occupational Safety and Health, and Security.

This position provides effective planning, execution, delivery, and reporting of Ministry requirements to support occupational health and safety in the workplace. The OH&S Coordinator leads small-scale accommodation projects and develops processes to reduce/ mitigate workplace hazards. Conducts workplace audits of all ministry facilities and provides expert advice and guidance to managers and staff regarding local issues. The OH&S Coordinator is also responsible for the recruitment, development, and deployment of First Aid Attendants for approximately 1400 employees across multiple locations and for the planning and practice of evacuation plans for the same locations.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Formal training in performing ergonomic assessments, inspections, and audits.
  • Experience in an Occupational Health and Safety capacity.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of training and/or presentations to groups.

Preference may be given to those with:
  • One or more years of experience in an Occupational Health and Safety capacity.
  • Level 2 Occupational First Aid.
  • Experience providing project management support services.
