Are you passionate about contemporary art? Do you enjoy collaborating with artists and curators to realize extraordinary projects? Surrey Art Gallery is looking for seasonal Adjunct Preparators.

Internationally recognized for its award-winning programs, Surrey Art Gallery shows all forms of contemporary art by local, national, and international artists, including digital and audio art. Our programs include artist talks, tours, and multiple art making and learning opportunities with artists, educators, and other specialists.


Adjunct Preparators provide skilled technical work required for the handling, installing, and protecting of artworks, as well as preparing and maintaining exhibition spaces. Typical duties include:
    • Safe handling of artworks during shipping, examination, and installation processes (including condition reports); • Designing and fabricating appropriate mounts and support systems for a variety of exhibition materials (including demonstrated safe use of workshop tools and equipment, such as table saw and chop saw); • Painting exhibition walls, environments, display cases, and mounts; • Preparing exhibition lighting for artworks and spaces using track lighting (including certification for working safely at heights with ladders and zipper lift) • Formatting and troubleshooting digital media devices (such as projectors, screens, media players, computers, speakers) • Mounting and installing text, labels, graphics, murals; and other materials for interpretive displays; • Monitoring exhibition and collections for wear and tear, safety, and security; and may include • Estimating of project costs and ordering of materials, as well as preparing reports and maintaining related records. • Work may include support for installation of City's Community Arts exhibitions and Surrey Art Gallery Association exhibitions

We're looking for:
    • skilled collaborators who are detail-oriented, listens to learn, and values conversations with artists; • experienced technicians committed to realizing the vision of exhibiting artists and curators; and • lifelong learners passionate about contemporary art.

    • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of related courses and training in visual and museum art exhibition preparation • Completion of a relevant bachelor degree or technical certificate in a related field such as studio arts, design, interior design, or drafting would be an asset. • A minimum of 3 years experience in museum or gallery preparation work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
