Our client is an intellectual property law firm located in downtown Vancouver.  They are experienced patent lawyers with a variety of technical backgrounds that provide them with the insight to help their clients define and protect their innovations. They practice intellectual property law exclusively and deal with the full range of legal matters in this field – including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, trade secrets, computer and internet law, technology transfer and licensing, and related litigation.

They are a dynamic, team-oriented firm that maintains a professional and well-balanced working environment.  They have an immediate opening for an Accounting Assistant to join their Accounting Department. 

 The primary job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Post incoming wires, process and post credit card payments
  • Reconcile and post daily credit card payments and save documentation to WD Prepare and post general deposits
  • Post client disbursements (e.g. FedEx, BC Online)
  • Daily uploads to the accounting system
  • Create new vendors, update existing vendors
  • Monthly reconciliations of credit cards and deposit accounts
  • Assist with month end and year end tasks
  • Manage the firm’s internal Trust shortage record
  • Prepare trust deposit slips and relevant trust transfer requisition forms
  • Communications with clients and members of the firm

The ideal candidate will bring with them accounting experience in a professional services environment, possess a high level of professional written and verbal communications skills, and a solid understanding of MS Office. 

Qualifications for this position include the following:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a law firm.
  • Exceptional technical skills with PCLaw and Excel. 
  • Current trust accounting knowledge and experience in compliance with The Law Society of BC rules.
  • Familiarity with PST and GST/HST rules would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage a large volume of tasks.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
