Scope

City of Surrey's Healthy Communities provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and is looking for enthusiastic Community Services Assistants. You will work as a One to One support worker in Preschool Programs. Working as part of a team, you will assist in the delivery of recreation services within the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. You will have excellent customer service skills, high energy and an enthusiastic approach to your work.

Responsibilities

    • Implement strategies within a child's care plan and work closely with supporting agencies. • Prepare, review, and implement strategies that will support the individual child within a community/classroom setting. • Provide support to the assigned child/children, assist with all activities within the classroom include (but not limited to): Support of safety practices, social/emotional strategies, behaviour support. • Assist program staff to create an indoor and outdoor environment that allows for accessibility to and safety of children requiring extra support. • Ensure activities accommodate and promote inclusion in all aspects of the program. • Assist children in the bathroom and personal care, as required.


Qualifications

    • Completion of grade 10 supplemented by 6 months experience in community service work. • Emergency First Aid with CPR-C/AED certificate for acceptable equivalent. • Experience working with individuals with disabilities. • Completion of post-secondary courses in recreation, community development and health promotion is an asset. • Early Childhood Educator License to Practice is an asset. • Education Assistant Diploma is an asset.


Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
