href=\"http:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/1836890\/canadas-hot-jobs-and-ones-to-avoid-experts-offer-their-top-picks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hot jobs<\/a> for 2015. \u00a0With new graduates joining the workforce this time of year, CBC also put forth some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/class-of-2015-5-ways-for-graduates-to-find-a-job-1.3012198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">career building advice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While I enjoy reading \u201cjob market\u201d articles as much as the next person, taking the information too seriously can be misguided. \u00a0Lists of jobs in demand can vary and change over time. \u00a0When applied too literally, this information can lead an earnest job hunter on a bit of a wild goose chase. \u00a0These statistics are compiled with data which is often selective and difficult to keep up to date \u2013 the accuracy and reliability of the data notwithstanding, the information may be stale by the time it is published.<\/p>\n<p>A smart job search says as much about the candidate\u2019s motivation as it does the quality of employer who recruits the individual. \u00a0As a HR professional who guides business owners and hiring managers in their recruitment, identifying the best qualified candidates isn\u2019t a simple task. \u00a0Savvy job hunters need to use a different approach to get the employer\u2019s attention. \u00a0It isn\u2019t enough to know what is in demand but more important to know how to get the attention of those screening your application.<\/p>\n<p>If you just study or train for the jobs on the in demand lists, you may already be one step behind from the start. \u00a0Plan for something you enjoy and the motivation and success will come naturally. \u00a0Instead, review those lists of in-demand occupations and find creative ways to do what you love within the opportunities that present themselves. \u00a0While hot jobs can change from year to year, the core employer requirements do not \u2013 quality candidates who present themselves well don\u2019t ever go out of style.<\/p>\n<p><i>Be in demand<\/i> by knowing what to bring forward regardless of what class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most annoying things recruiters encounter is generic applications. \u00a0Truly motivated individuals take more care into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcjobs.ca\/blog\/researching-potential-employers\/\">researching the company<\/a> and the position. \u00a0Pay attention to the employer and do some research on the business or at least know what the specific job requirements are. \u00a0\u00a0It may seem obvious but it starts with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcjobs.ca\/blog\/how-to-read-a-job-ad\/\">reading the job posting<\/a> carefully. \u00a0Everyone wants to feel special and the best employers out there will care who they are attracting. \u00a0By putting some effort into the details, you have a better chance of standing out as a viable candidate. \u00a0In the age of the internet, there is no excuse for not finding out as much as possible about a company and\/or its vacancy. \u00a0In fact, there is so much \u201cout there\u201d to be uncovered including formal employer reviews and word-of-mouth critiques, laziness is the only thing hindering research efforts. \u00a0You don\u2019t even have to leave your home to start.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_concise_and_provide_highlights\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Be_concise_and_provide_highlights\"><\/span>Be concise and provide a big job. \u00a0For popular employers with recognizable brands, this could mean piles of applications involving many hours of work. \u00a0The internet has opened up sources of candidates and channels of posting distribution that generate lots of responses. \u00a0The interesting thing is that more is not better. (<a href=\"https:\/\/590thefan.com\/xanax\/\">Xanax<\/a>)  \u00a0It is more time consuming to sort all the mind-numbing unsuitable applicants. \u00a0Candidates who demonstrate they have read the job posting stand out. \u00a0More importantly, a clear and concise application will get noticed and considered more seriously.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_strategy\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_strategy\"><\/span>Use strategy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A smart and fruitful job search is about quality applications. \u00a0Combine your online job search with other job hunting techniques such as volunteering, networking and proactive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcjobs.ca\/blog\/informational-interviews-create-powerful-results\/\">informational interviews<\/a>. \u00a0You get bonus points and stand out for seeing a posting and then making a connection with the company via your network. \u00a0Don\u2019t be a passive job seeker who is waiting for the phone to ring. \u00a0You probably have links to the company or position you are seeking if you get more creative. \u00a0Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcjobs.ca\/blog\/social-networking-group-finding-a-social-network-group\/\">social networking<\/a> such as LinkedIn or old fashioned networking such as your cousin\u2019s neighbour. \u00a0Present yourself as a multi-dimensional candidate who pays attention. \u00a0Sometimes, a simple conversation leads to many other discussions. \u00a0To make a strong impression aim for real-time interaction.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Attitude_counts\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Attitude_counts\"><\/span>Attitude counts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Practise a positive attitude. \u00a0Have a passion or interest in the \u201cright job\u201d because you shouldn\u2019t be applying for work you don\u2019t want to do anyways. \u00a0Employers screen for technical skills but hire for attitude. \u00a0Ultimately, genuine motivation will make you stand out as the better person for the job if you get through to the interview stages. \u00a0Having focus, using your resources wisely and communicating to connect will be the difference between successful job search and half-hearted internet surfing. \u00a0This will increase your chances of getting shortlisted versus waiting for the phone to ring.<\/p>\n<p>Conducting a job search isn\u2019t easy for either party. \u00a0It is just as difficult for a great employer to find keen employees as it is for motivated job seekers to find their next career move. \u00a0Most applicants don\u2019t realize how much time and effort it requires though. \u00a0It is no surprise that most recruitment experts will tell you that a job search (itself) is a full time job. \u00a0Even if you put your best foot forward, it is important to do so wisely.<\/p>\n<p>Using your knowledge resourcefully is the way to get noticed. \u00a0Employers don\u2019t hire a resume or cover letter, they hire for connection. \u00a0While submitting your application is only the first step into a job search, it is an important one. \u00a0The key goal is to get an invitation leading to a conversation by phone, video chat or in person.
