The technology industry is exploding across the globe. At the end of 2016, five of the seven most valuable companies in the world were technology companies. This means there’s a ton of jobs available, but finding a situation that suits you can still be tough.
Whether you’re just starting out, or have been in the industry awhile, finding a spot where you can live affordably and get paid well is always important. ABODO, a rental apartment listing site, set out to uncover the best and most affordable cities for tech jobs.
, it’s our job to help people find great apartments,” said Sam Radbil, ABODO’s Sr. Communications Manager
. “Over the years, we’ve found that one of the most important aspects in a lot of city to city moves is employment opportunity. With this in mind, we set out to uncover where people can find the best jobs in tech, one of the fastest-growing industries, while still being able to afford to live in the city they choose. In short, what cities are home to the best tech jobs, but also offer affordable rent prices?”
ABODO analyzed 76 major metropolitan areas for computer and math job density, 1 median salary in those positions, and median 1-bedroom rent price.
shows that San Jose is an absolutely dominant technology hub — this comes as no surprise to us,” explained Radbil. “Along with San Jose, cities like Washington D.C., Austin, Columbus and Detroit scored very high in terms of available tech jobs and affordable rent. On the other end of the spectrum, cities like Miami, Baton Rouge, Nashville and Memphis scored on the low end.”
