The BC Centre for Palliative Care is dedicated to providing leadership to promote excellence in palliative and end of life care. The Centre collaborates with partners across BC to improve care for people with serious, advanced life-limiting illness and their families by:
Promoting education and awareness around end of life care issues,
Supporting evidence-informed practice and policy development, and
Accelerating innovation and best practice.
Executive Director Dr. Doris Barwich’s immediate focus is to consult with provincial, national and international leaders, as well as members of the public, to gather input and galvanize the Centre’s strategic priorities. Dr. Barwich is meeting with colleagues across the health and social service sectors to discuss priorities and finalize the Centre’s role in the transformation required to ensure our province remains a leader in palliative and end of life care.
Dr. Barwich is an experienced clinician and educator and has led a variety of palliative and end of life care strategies in BC and Canada. She believes in building coalitions and networks of care to improve palliative and end of life care for those living with and dying from advanced and serious illness.
The BC Centre for Palliative Care was created in 2013 by the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability (IHSTS). The Ministry of Health, in support of its Provincial End of Life Action Plan, provided the funding to establish the Centre.
BC Centre for Palliative Care does not currently have any available jobs.
