Mechanical Building Systems (Energy Modeling Specialist): Harvey 1158

The Mechanical Buildings Systems Engineer (Energy Modeling Specialist) is an integral part of the Mechanical Engineering Design Team and is responsible for the research, selection and Design of Mechanical Systems for Buildings in line with company and industry standards under the supervision of a Senior Designer or Project Manager. You will be a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions to contribute to the timely completion of Projects and Systems Designs with minimal supervision. In addition to Mechanical Buildings Systems Design, you will have the ability to incorporate building envelope detail, materials and specification information to construct an Energy Model to determine a building’s efficiency under various design conditions. You will be able to simulate, interpret, analyse and report on building and environmental conditions to enable Sustainable Building Design. You should have a strong working knowledge of IESve modeling software or equivalent.

You will work with the Mechanical Design team who are involved in the creation of sustainable building solutions which embrace environmental responsibility through use of the integrated design process, sustainable and passive design concepts, microclimate analysis and advanced building modeling tools.

Requirements:
You are a self-motivated degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer registered as an EIT or P.Eng with APEG, or eligible for registration. You have a passion for working with other enthusiastic professionals in a team environment. This position commands that you have excellent written and verbal communication skills, have a proven track record of building services design delivery and a minimum of 3 years experience in Mechanical services design (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems) with at least 1 year’s experience of energy modeling using IESve or equivalent.

Candidate Profile
• Minimum 5 years AutoCAD experience coupled with 2 years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems
• Minimum 1 year Energy Modeling experience (IESve or equivalent)
• Proficient operating knowledge of Energy Modeling software
• Ability to think mechanically and/or mechanically inclined
• Ability to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
• Ability to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing building and sprinkler codes (i.e. NFPA, BCBC, BC Plumbing Code, etc) with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
• Ability to multi-task
• Strong listening skills to receive and executive instructions from Design staff
• Critical thinking and problem solving
• Initiative and inclination to learn
• EIT classification, AScT accreditation, or ability to apply for P.Eng qualification is an asset
• University degree or College diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related specialization is required
• Further certification in Energy Modeling, Buildings Systems Performance, Energy Assessment or Sustainable Engineering is beneficial
