Project Planner/Estimator: Harvey 1502

 

Basic Purpose

Works with the sales, engineering and drawing office personnel during the initial phase of the project to develop the preliminary design, cost estimate, and proposal. Upon decision to proceed with the project, works with the Project Manager to transfer contract information regarding the contractual, cost, and scope items necessary for the effective completion of the project.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities/Competencies

§ Works with the sales group and the client to gain an understanding of the project requirements. Gathers necessary information, helps develop the project concept and brings forward innovative, cost-effective solutions and alternatives. Sends out requests for quotations. Researches previous project cost data to find the most cost-effective solutions. Develops a base cost estimate as well as the preliminary construction and labour schedules.

§ Works with engineering group to develop designs, drawings, and specifications. Gathers detailed information (layouts, dimensions, constructability issues) at the project sites.

§ Participates in the preparation of the proposal documents, the contract documents, and/or the Letter of Intent.

§ Works closely with the Project Manager at the initial stage of a project to ensure that there is a thorough and comprehensive hand-off of the scope of work for the project and the responsibilities of each subcontractor and supplier. Completes any optional pricing and finalizes costs of the project and contract price.

§ Helps the Project Manager prepare the final version of the contract documents.

§ Assists with the planning and presentation for Project Focus Meetings and other meetings as required.

§ Works with the Project Manager to refine cost estimates and cost code the estimate.

§ Helps the Project Manager finalize all schedules, prepare purchase orders, and communicate all necessary information to subcontractors. Helps obtain any necessary insurance, building permits, or bonds.

§ Collects actual cost data upon completion of the project and updates estimating data bank.

Qualifications

§ Pleasant demeanor with an ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks while working within a team environment.

§ Appropriate level of experience in the industrial construction industry.

§ Education/training in engineering and formal training in Project Management would be an asset.

§ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

§ Attention to detail and accuracy.

§ Planning and organizing skills.

§ Computer skills in software including Timberline Job Cost, Timberline Estimating, MS Office, AutoCAD, scheduling, accounting, and estimating software are an asset.

Other Information

§ Travel to worksites required.
