Job Description:
COMMUNICATIONS ADVISOR (10 month contract)

Our client, a leading national professional association, is looking for a Communications Advisor to join their team. With clients ranging from major corporations and industries to entrepreneurs, their expertise is valued in the public sector, government and the corporate world.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Advisor -Vancouver creates various communications plans and tactics designed to raise the positive profile of the association.

The Communications Advisor is a part of the communications team, and both leads and assists in planning and implementing communication projects, activities and tactics as necessary to achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities:
-Perform the functions of a communications project team leader: set objectives; assess stakeholder and client needs; designate team members; develop a project plan that includes budget; manage roles and responsibilities, deadlines and deliverables; call and chair meetings; deliver projects within deadlines and on budget
-Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine the best strategy and tactics for each project or communications task
-Ensure all project stakeholders are given regular project updates as the project unfolds
-Maintain an up-to-date project file on each project including a project plan defining scope, client requirements, deliverables, deadlines, approval processes, turnaround times, project team contact information, estimates, quotes, budget and relevant emails and supporting documentation
-Identify potential issues and implement a solution
-Raise unresolved issues to the Communications Director as they arise
-Advise the Communications Director of any deadline that may not be met as soon as this information is known
-To understand association priorities and key messages and use both in practice
-Understand relations with affiliate offices and why is this important
-To stay informed on association business and understand key areas of interest by online research, reading and understanding website materials, reading and understanding association briefing materials
-Communication project planning, management and execution – both as a team member and as a team leader
-Developing key messages for communications purposes
-Writing communications materials: articles, media releases, backgrounders, brochures, web copy and online newsletters
-Media relations, social media, and video production support
-Researching and writing large presentations and speeches
-Maintaining budget control of communications projects and working with suppliers, including managing supplier contracts

Requirements:
-Considerable knowledge of external corporate communications, principles and practices
-Experience in research, writing, editing and web communications
-Experience in media relations and social media
-Considerable project management experience in a multi-stakeholder environment
-Completion of post secondary degree in communications, journalism or related field or combination of education and relevant experience
-5-8 years of progressively senior experience preferably in a board run organization in the corporate, not-for-profit, or association sectors
-Superb personal communication skills, both oral and in written, are required as are strong people skills and a highly developed sense of organizational sophistication
-Ability to function effectively in a team environment, and be equally comfortable in the role of team leader or team member
-A self-motivated self-starter
-A strategic thinker
-An ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
-The ability to assess and handle sensitive and complex situations and issues with diplomacy, tact and skill
-The ability to manage complex and multi-layered reporting and collegial relationships across time zones and geographic distances
-Strong attention to detail
-A positive “can-do” attitude
-The ability to work comfortably and effectively on projects with multiple interests and multiple stakeholders
-Capable of taking part in decision-making and project management
-Demonstrated ability with graphic design, video and print production
-Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting deadlines and priorities
-Ability to establish priorities, plan and organize work to meet objectives, goals and deadlines
-Bilingual skills an asset
